The stories of Takeshi Osumi and Yuichi Yoshii take us on a journey through hip hop, catering and projects such as Swagger and Phenomenon—the link between streetwear and luxury.
At the core, always the music. Takeshi Osumi (aka Big-O) was one of the members of Shakkazombie, a pioneering Japanese hip-hop group, and the creator of Phenomenon, whose name is based on a song by rapper Notorious B.I.G. In his various projects, both solo and with Yuichi Yoshii, music has always been his mainstay, his source of inspiration. Sometimes he used it in a literal sense, as in the WAVE record store, and sometimes in a more sensory way, as in the Pariya restaurant, where music creates the perfect atmosphere.
MISTERGENTLEMAN was the first of Osumi and Yoshii's collaborative works that, in almost ten years of existence, has remained a mixer of essences that gives a touch of eccentricity to basic garments through daring textures and color combinations. As its name implies, the label prides itself with the sartorial style that Japanese brands crave.
The FW21 collection is the first to appear in the SVD catalog, but the last in which the multi-talented Takeshi Osumi was actively involved, as he passed away earlier this year. However, even though he is gone, the designer's creative force will still be present and will always accompany Yuichi Yoshi and MISTERGENTLEMAN.
