Patta's relationship with Air Max is as deep as it is inevitable. The brand was founded by two music and Amsterdam nightlife rabble-rousers of the 1990s, Edson Sabajo and Gee Schmidt, who hunted for vinyl and sneakers that were inaccessible on the local market during their travels. The birth of Patta was an organic event that represented a latent culture in the early 2000s.
If we talk about DJs and the Netherlands, we must talk about Air Max, a saga that has become a massive local symbol as well as an icon for different subcultures. Perhaps the best known case is that of the Gabbers, who made the Max BW their own, although the use of the Air Max spread finally to the rest of society.
Edson Sabajo and Gee Schmidt keep the Surinamese heritage in Patta, like their name (which in urban slang refers to sneakers). Their interest in embracing different cultures has created new codes and one of them is the Nike Air Max 1, which has received Patta's attention in different collaborations, alone or together with Piet Parra.
