adidas x Star Wars: 40 Years of The Empire Strikes Back
Four decades since its release, adidas honors one of the most iconic films to come from the Star Wars saga.
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
In 1977, the first Star Wars film took the world by storm and sparked a cultural phenomenon, which would be celebrated by many generations to come. From the mind of George Lucas to the big screen, fans were thrust into the middle of an epic sci-fi tale introducing a far-reaching galactic world full of Jedis, Stormtroopers and other cosmic creatures from Lucas’ universe.
It was the world’s first meeting with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and the Rebel Alliance, following their struggle against the Galactic Empire and Sith lord Darth Vader.
Expectations were high in 1980, when the highly anticipated sequel: Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back saw the characters return to the silver screen continuing their battle against the Galactic Empire and introducing new characters in the film series such as, Yoda, Lando Calrissian and Boba Fett.
The response from audiences was overwhelming, setting a rare example in cinema of a sequel that could transcend an original film. This year marks 40 years of The Empire Strikes back and to honor the film and its characters, adidas and Star Wars have teamed up transforming classic silhouettes into special, wearable memorabilia.

adidas x Star Wars
Featuring six characters across an array of six silhouettes, the adidas x Star Wars collection pays homage to some of the most notable characters from the Star Wars universe.
The Ultraboost DNA takes on the form of Master Yoda in the character’s iconic green shade, while the Top Ten HI is transformed into the metallic gold reminiscent of C-3PO.
Luke Skywalker’s original lightsaber is incorporated into the Stan Smith through hits of blue throughout the silhouette, while the Superstar takes on tones of red and black emanating the spirit of Darth Vader and the NMD_R1 slips into the uniform of the Sith Lord’s loyal Stormtroopers.
Last but not least, smooth talking Lando Calrissian takes over the reinterpretation of the NMD_R1 V2 in a silhouette that takes cues from the character’s outfit in The Empire Strikes Back.
All silhouettes come in special edition packaging featuring the original film poster of The Empire Strikes Back with some including commemorative metal pins depicting the characters and iconic objects from the film.
