adidas, a bit of history

adidas was founded by Adolf Dassler in 1948 in Germany with the aim of improving the performance of athletes.

The 50s saw a revolution with the rise of technology that meant innovative equipment for high-level athletes. It was the era when the Samba appeared, and that the brand developed a world-record-breaking sprint shoe and the first soccer boot designed with a nylon sole.

The 60s saw athletes push the boundaries of sport with exceptional products at the time, including adidas' launch of the first sneaker designed specifically for running, the Azteca Gold.

The 70s, synonymous with music, culture and fashion, but also historic sporting moments, brought the legendary adidas Superstar, the Adilette and the must-have white Stan Smith tennis shoe to the wardrobe. Over the course of 1975, in response to the rise of counterfeits, adidas adopted a new logo, the striped clover.

The 80s were the decade of innovation and the beginnings of hip hop. The Micropacer introduced digital tracking to the running world, while the Torsion ZX8000 became the first running sneaker to track the natural movement of the ankle.

The 90s saw another revolution. The Predator Cup quickly came to prominence on soccer fields and on players' feet, with its grooves on the forefoot that allowed for better ball control.

During the 2000s, mainly existing designs and technologies were refined, but there was also a push for collaborations, such as when Yohji Yamamoto envisioned the YY MEI Brocade before creating Y-3, and Stella McCartney developed a couture sportswear line.

During the 2010s, sustainable development became a real priority and gave rise to innovations and new technologies. Witnessing and acting on the changes in the world of sport and society, in 2015 adidas unveiled the Superstar Pride Pack during Pride month, the first sneaker to support equality for all and the LGBTI movement.
