Nike Overreact Flyknit ISPA

In a world where it is typical to associate a model with a single designer, ISPA is a collective work involving approaches from design, but also from computing, analysis of human movement, and traditional crafts. Even the ISPA logo has been created following a philosophy that explores Nike's history.

Nike ISPA is Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, and Adapt. Four principles that are reflected in the final form of each product and that must be able to address the ever-changing challenges of the human-made environment.

    • Improvise. Never be blocked by the first answer to a problem, improvise to see if it can be improved.
    • Scavenge. Explore to find the materials you need, scavenge and pull together the best available options to solve the problem.
    • Protect. Your solution must protect against the problem.
    • Adapt. Adapt all solutions to fit their broadest potential.

The Nike ISPA Overreact faces, from this perspective, a problem well known to designers: creating the most comfortable shoe.To this end, it relies on React technology that works with internal geometries to enhance its functionality. A task that was taken on for the Nike React Element 87, and which now has been maximized to eliminate the insole and strobel, a common internal piece in traditional constructions.

On the upper, one of Nike's latest technology elements is used to achieve the perfect fit, flyknit, this time around created from excess materials that give it a unique image. Even the colors have been adapted to match the production scraps.

As part of the ISPA pack, the Nike ISPA Overreact perfectly illustrates the project’s design philosophy based on the four principles: Improvise-Scavenge-Protect-Adapt, with never-before-seen ideas used to solve problems we face on a daily basis. In this case, the search for the ideal combination of cushioning and fit.
